The Australian Infectious Diseases Research Centre (AID) arose from the “Centre for Infectious Disease Research", that was established in 2009 under the leadership of Prof. Alex Khromykh within the UQ School of Chemistry & Molecular Biosciences and coordinated 11 leading groups focused on infectious disease research.
The Australian Infectious Diseases (AID) Research Centre was established at UQ in 2011, and became a collaborative initiative of UQ and QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute in 2012 under leadership of Prof. Mark Walker. Since then, AID has grown into a sizable network of >130 lead investigators and their teams. Recognising AID’s research impact, critical mass and cross-disciplinary key expertise and capabilities, in 2025 AID became a UQ Network.
